Ian Sinclair R.I.P.

See Death Notice in The Scotsman.
The squash club will be making a contribution to a cancer charity and dedicating The Over-50 Cup to Ian, a lifelong member at Grange who played with distinction on squash teams up to 2004. A gentleman who will be remembered by all who knew him.(C.L.)

I am sorry to hear of Ian's death. I used to play him occasionally when I was a member and also in the ESSA leagues. He was a grumpy so-and-so on court and a very nice guy off it.

Cheers Ken- you probably go back to when Ian was in his pomp- he was club champion in 1986 around the heyday of Roy Harley & Sandy Buchan.

I only really got to know him in 2002 when I re-started Grange 3's and Ian played #1 for 3 seasons for that team. He was definitely a competitor and seemed to have the odd earnest discussion with the ref to spur himself on but it always stayed civil. For me, he'll always be known for his deadly drop-shot. Agreed that he always added to the banter in the bar afterwards.

It was a little later than that in fact when Ian's fitness was not at a peak. I remember playing him in a league match when he hit 9 returns of serve into the tin to get a rest and gave the marker and me filthy looks thoughout. As soon as we walked off court he couldn't have been nicer.
